Can Chronic Back Pain be Fixed with Chiropractic Care?
Chronic Back Pain Be Fixed With Chiropractic Care?
Recently, a young man presented to my chiropractic clinic with chronic daily back pain for the past 8 years.
Along with chronic back pain, he also reported leg pain coming from his lower back, or sciatica. He injured himself 8 years ago while dunking a basketball. He felt immediate pain in his lower back and said, "I knew I did something wrong." He says he felt like an "old man with needles in his low back".
Chiropractic x-rays were obtained, which revealed a likely old and healed endplate fracture to the lumbar vertebrae. He also had decreased disc space causing disc degeneration in the lower lumbar spine.
Injuries to the spine can trigger chronic back pain, decreased circulation in the lower back in the injured muscles, vertebrae, and discs in the spine. He also appeared to injure nerves in his lower back and had frequent sciatica.
He underwent 3 treatments at our chiropractic clinic and experienced a total resolution of the chronic pain he had been experiencing for the past 8 years. The treatments included chiropractic adjustments to the spine, manual therapy, electrical stimulation, flexion-distraction therapy, and therapeutic exercises for the back.
He is currently released from care and is continuing his home exercises and stretching.
So, can Chronic Back Pain Be Fixed With Chiropractic Care?
There is a good chance chronic back pain is able to be fixed with proper chiropractic care. Each individual situation is of course different, but it is well worth discussing this with a chiropractor to see if you may be a good candidate for some initial treatment.
