Spine and muscle pain go hand and hand. Musculoskeletal disorders are experienced as tight, sore, painful, stiff, achy muscles that are causing pain and dysfunction. The cause may be from a new or old injury, extended time at the work or home computers, a lack of flexibility, stress and even poor posture.
The body in turn may start to develope “trigger points”.
Myofascial trigger points, also known as trigger points, are hyperirritable spots in the fascia surrounding skeletal muscles. They are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers.
Fascia is a thin, tough, skin like tissue that connects muscle together. Fascia has a high number of pain fibers and nerves that when inflamed from tightness or injury can lead to ongoing pain and dysfunction.
In many these “trigger points” and myofascial disorders may cause ongoing musculoskeletal pain that needs to be addressed. We refer to this as myofascial disorders.
Chiropractic manual therapy addresses these disorders by breaking up the trigger points manually by hand or hand held machine. Your Chiropractor my press in and massage tender points and knots in your muscle while attempting to stretch inflamed, tight and sore fascia and muscles that are causing dysfunction and pain.
Choosing a Chiropractor who takes a more comprehensive approach to your conditions by not only addressing the vertebral column but also treating the surrounding muscle and fascia in his/her treatment plan is recommended.
