Signs and symptoms of a herniated disc from your chiropractor
We're going to be talking about some signs and symptoms of a herniated disc.
The disc in your spine act as shock absorbers. Think of them like cushions in between the vertebrae. And their purpose is to absorb shock that goes through the spine after a fall, after a trauma, after a pop of your head, for instance. They provide a good level of shock absorption between the vertebrae.
Pay Attention to Pain
Often times, these discs will give way or herniate or bulge and cause symptoms such as severe sharp pain in the neck, severe stabbing, sharp pain in the low back or mid-back. And oftentimes, this pain is accompanied by a radiating pain and numbness that goes into the arms or hands, which is an agitation of the spinal nerves that are being irritated by the bulging or herniated disc. This can be very painful.
With the herniated disc in the neck, or the bulging disc in the neck. These nerves go into your arms and hands and give your hands sensation and motor strength when these nerves are agitated often times the neck pain is accompanied by radiating pain or numbness or tingling into the shoulders or hands.
In the low back, these nerves go into your legs and your feet. They allow your feet to feel sensation or the muscles in your legs to work properly. When these nerves are irritated in your low back, it's often accompanied by shooting pain into the legs. Sometimes there will be tingling or burning in the feet or pain in the feet as well.
